Ode to a Pug: I’m a BIG Dog! by Jill Rosen

There’s something so lovable about returning to a familiar picture book character, and Phoebe the pug continues to completely steal the show in Ode to a Pug: I’m a BIG Dog!

Written by Jill Rosen and illustrated by Stephanie Rohr, this newest installment brings back the same humor, charm, and expressive storytelling that made the earlier books in the series so enjoyable. If your young readers already adore Phoebe (Or dogs in general!), they are going to be thrilled to jump into this hilarious adventure with this determined little pug.

This time, Phoebe has her sights set on the BIG dog park. She is absolutely convinced that she belongs there, and her (stubbornness) confidence leads to plenty of laugh-out-loud moments along the way. The story captures that feeling of wanting to prove yourself and be included, which is something young readers will immediately connect with.

One of my favorite things about this series is how playful and energetic the storytelling feels. The rhyming text flows beautifully when read aloud, making it a fun choice for storytime/read-alouds, and the illustrations are packed with personality and humor. Every page feels lively and expressive, with so many adorable little details for kids to notice.

This series continues to feel fresh while still keeping the heart and humor that readers loved from the beginning. Phoebe’s larger-than-life personality shines once again, and honestly, it’s hard not to root for her.

Dog lovers, especially pug fans, will absolutely adore this one. It’s sweet, funny, and full of determination, making it a perfect addition to home libraries, classrooms, and bedtime reading stacks.

If you’ve been following the Ode to a Pug books already, this newest adventure is such a fun continuation of the series. And if you’re new to Phoebe, this is a wonderful place to start.
