Dash and the Lights in the Sky is a beautiful blend of storytelling, science, and Arctic magic. The thing that stands out the most, is the stunning artwork and the absolutely GLOWING colours!

This poetic picture book follows Dash, a curious husky who notices a mysterious glow dancing across the night sky. With help from Echo the wise snowy owl and Nimbus the playful Arctic fox, Dash begins a journey of discovery that leads to the science behind the aurora borealis.

What I loved most about this book is the rich vocabulary and the many science topics it opens up for students. We cover a lot of these topics in our curriculum, and this book provides a beautiful starting off point! Words like atmosphere, particles, and magnetism are introduced in a way that feels natural and inviting.

The story has a gentle rhythm that keeps young readers engaged while also creating opportunities for meaningful learning. The combination of advanced vocabulary and accessible explanation makes it a wonderful tool for early STEM education, science lessons, homeschool, and more.

The watercolor style illustrations create a dreamy Arctic world that feels both magical and calm. The Parents’ Reading Guide is a thoughtful addition, offering vocabulary help and discussion questions. This makes the book ideal for classroom lessons, homeschool learning, or quiet family reading at home.

Dash and the Lights in the Sky captures the natural curiosity of young children and channels it into wonder and understanding. It is a lovely choice for ages 0 to 8 and a great resource for teachers who want to bring science concepts to life through story.
